Playing music should be fun!

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your playing music?
If it’s, – “I can’t stand it” or “boy we go again” or “hard work” then it’s time you ask yourself some truly deep questions about why you are “feeling” this way about your instrument.
Music should first and foremost be a fun and enjoyable experience. Learning how to play an instrument should be fun!
I know from experience that time and effort is required to enjoy true freedom on your instrument.
But it’s tremendously essential to make the journey a process fill of fun and enjoyment.
Fun and laughter will make you learn how to play so much faster than misery and gloom!
If you think you’ve lost the initial joy you’ve had when you’ve started, here’s some creative ideas:
- Listen to your favourite artists and get back to why you wanted to learn how to play Simply take out your sax, guitar, bass or other instrument and start playing… Forget about technique, harmony or anything technical – just start playing and have fun! Imitate laughter and fun on your instrument.
- Get together with a group of musical friends and have a jam.
- Change your instrument. (if you feel it’s not the right instrument)
- Take a break from playing and get back fresh! (with new goals and objectives)
There is another possibility – perhaps your instructor is not quite a music teacher (he or she might be an excellent musician – but that’s not to say they can convey musical truths to another human being) or simply not interested in your development.
TIP OF THE DAY: If your teacher is not teaching you properly and making things enjoyable and understandable, SIMPLY find a better one.
It might cost more, but you will get so much more out of your relationship with your instrument if you have a mentor & guide to light the path to successful music making!
